Here you can find works ranging from StoryMaps created while at the Clean Cooking Alliance, to static maps featured in papers and policy briefs while at the University of Michigan, Forest Use, Energy, and Livelihoods (FUEL) Lab, to a few cartography projects while a student in the Geography Department at UNC Greensboro.

My co-authors and I found that that access to financial services plays a significant role in enabling household energy transitions in sub-Saharan Africa, but the effects differ by gender and rural–urban context. Bank account ownership is consistently associated with greater adoption of grid electricity, solar devices, and clean cooking fuels, especially for male-headed households in urban areas, while mobile money and credit show more context-specific effects. Importantly, female-headed households benefit notably from mobile money and bank accounts in some settings, highlighting that expanding women’s financial inclusion could be a powerful pathway to accelerate equitable energy transitions.

This StoryMap was developed in collaboration with my CCA colleague Alicia Oberholzer for the inaugural Week of Clean Cooking. We aimed to pull together "complex" knowledge of air pollution in the clean cooking sector and make it digestible for a non-technical audience, as well as present new literature findings to those who are already experts in the field.

Our StoryMap was featured and presented at the 2022 ETHOS conference, which supports the cookstoves and clean cooking community (link to presentation).

This is a StoryMap I pitched and developed independently, thanks to the support of my Research, Evidence, and Learning team. CCA previously did not have one place where we could point donors and stakeholders to that collated all of the funded and managed research the organization has been involved in since its founding in 2010.

This collection brings together 5 separate StoryMaps - Highlights; Adoption, Technology and Implementation Research; Climate Research; Health Research; and Gender Research.

Utilizing Open Source Data

The data used come from SEDAC on PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) levels.

This was put together with oversight from Cheryl Weyant while in the FUEL lab to present to our EPPSA colleagues on relevant sources of secondary data.
